Arrival day
In Roses you’ll find coves among rocky cliffs, and places of best natural interest. Worth a visit is La Ciutadella, an example of a Renaissance defensive structure on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.
Stage 1: Circular route Roses (14 Km 570m+)
Starting from the sea you will climb to the Puig Alt (492m) discovering an
amazing megalithic area. Climbing up we will pass by dolmen De la Creu
d’en Corbatella (3000-2700 years bC) with some menhirs and a bit further
the dolmen of El Cap de l’Home. When you reach the sommet (Puig
Alt) you will enjoy an amazing view of the Roses gulf. Coming down to
Roses you will discover a nice quiet valley with terraces and olive groves.
Stage 2: Roses - Cadaqués (24 km 945m+ / 21km 500m+ / 17km 470m+)
Today you’ll follow the coastal path, which leads you to discover the
roughest and the most beautiful part of the Costa Brava, for its
uniqueness. After the walk, we arrive at Cadaqués, a beautiful white
coastal town, surrounded by mountains, which was a favorite of both Picasso
and Salvador Dalí. The last one, lived and worked here for over 50 years.
Short cut of the itinerary: Today you will have the option to shortcut the
itinerary avoiding Norfeo Cape (-3km). You also could take and optional
transfer and skip the most urban area in Roses (-4km).
Stage 3: Circular route Cadaqués (16 Km 532 m+ / Free day)
Embarking on a captivating loop run through the stunning landscape of
the Cap de Creus, you’ll find yourself at the easternmost point of the
peninsula, where a picturesque lighthouse stands as a sentinel overlooking
the sea.
As you return from the lighthouse, your path leads you through the Pla de
Tudela, an area that holds a special allure. This region is famed for its
moon-like landscape, characterized by magnificent rocks and formations
that evoke a surreal and dreamlike atmosphere. It’s in this very terrain that
Salvador Dalí found inspiration, and attempting to put the experience into
words falls short of capturing its true essence. (Transfer on request is
available to skip the last 3km coming back to Cadaqués).
Stage 4: Cadaqués - Port de la Selva (15 Km 658m+)
Setting out from Cadaqués, your journey takes you on a northern route
through the heart of the renowned Cap de Creus National Park. The path
you’ll follow is a rustic trail that winds its way through the landscape,
offering glimpses of the untouched and wild coves that characterize this
stunning region. Against this backdrop of natural beauty, the majestic
Pyrenees stand as a dramatic and awe-inspiring presence.
Arriving in Port de la Selva, the picturesque coastal town welcomes you
with open arms. This serene and charming destination offers the perfect
setting to end your day’s journey
Stage 5: Port de la Selva - Roses (18 km 842m+ / 13km 350m+)
Leaving the coast behind, your path now takes you to the west, guiding
you towards the heights of the mountains. The ascent leads you to the
awe-inspiring medieval monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes. As you
approach the monastery, you’ll find yourself surrounded by a sense of
history and spirituality that’s palpable in the air.
Having absorbed the grandeur of the monastery, your journey continues
with the final climb, leading you to the castle of Sant Salvador de Verdera.
Perched on the precipice of an aerial summit, the castle offers
breathtaking panoramic views that stretch as far as the eye can see. The
culmination of your journey to this castle is a moment of triumph,
rewarded by the sweeping views that surround you.
Short option: For those seeking a shorter route that offers a different experience, an alternate itinerary is available. This path avoids the monastery and the castle, offering a tranquil journey through the valley of Selva de Mar, a peaceful and serene area. One of the highlights of this route is the small winery, Mas de l’Estela, that offers a chance to indulge in the flavors of the region, adding a sensory dimension to your experience.
From the winery, the path leads you to the climb to the col of Sant Genís,
and descending from the col, you’ll find yourself reaching Roses, your last location on this journey.
This alternate itinerary serves as a reminder that there are multiple ways
to experience a region, each offering its own rewards and insights.
