Different waves of the history has brought also a large list of cultures and heritages, with several settlements and ruins from the Iberians, through the Greeks, the Romans and the medieval ages. The whole region has spread hundreds of small villages, with well conserved medieval buildings as castles, churches or spectacular arched squares. A modest architecture, but pure and authentic. Sometimes narrow and disordered towns, but with spectacular fortified churches on the top, big walls totally covered for the houses along the time or farmhouses with great defense towers.

Beyond those beaches some wetlands areas concentrate great natural reserves, where the birds rest on his amazing migration between Europe and Africa. And finally beside the border with France, the awesome Cape Creus, with his unique geological park, protect from the touristic development Cadaqués, the village where Dalí use to live and get inspired for their genial paints.

Also for the touring cyclist, Girona is a great area, where we can ride along the Girona Greenways cycle path (ancient railway).

This line brings you from Olot in the Pyrenees , to Sant Feliu de Guixols in the Costa Brava. Always downhill, and crossing Girona, the Greenway of Girona has become a very popular tour.
