Costa Brava Mountain Bike 4 stages

Arrival at Torroella with his magnificent castle at the top of the hill. We recommend visiting the medieval core of the town.

After delivering the necessary documentation and bike fitting (if bikes contracted), you start the first ride. This route explores the karstic Montgrí Massif and the headland surrounding it.  From the top of the Massif , is possible to see both the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean sea, as well as the well-known agricultural area of the Empordà, unique by the great number of irrigation canals.

You will combine technical tracks, combining sand and rocky areas. Great views over the sea from big cliffs. You will reach de fisherman village of L’Escala and you will cycle along the front sea boulevard. Later you will arrive to the Greek and Roman settlement in front of nice beaches where you can swim (showers in high season). After cycling the nice pedestrian front sea we will turn left to inland and south returning to Torroella. You will have again the opportunity to enjoy again nice single tracks.

Starting from Torroella north direction, you will cross some agricultural areas with lots of apple trees. Passing by Bellcaire and Albons with its castles. From where we will reach an undulated region, with Mediterranean pins forest, with a lot of funny single tracks. Before reaching Madremanya you will pass by Púbol, the village that owns the Gala Dalí castle Museum, really worth to visit. Finally you will reach the charming little village of Madremanya.

This ride extends into the Gavarres mountains and climbs one of the highest peaks Puig d’Alt (485m) again with great views to the south of Costa Brava, and all the plain of the Empordà, Girona and the Pyrenees as a backdrop. Here is the well known Sanctuari dels Angels, where Dali got married with Gala.

Today the track starts on a flat area surrounding La Bisbal and then you have a long climb to Santa Coloma de Fitor, a nice Romanesque church in the middle of les Gavarres. Then a nice and funny descent will bring you to the magnificent medieval village of Pals.

The second half part of the track is on a flat area, crossing rice fields, until the coast and then back to Torroella

Optional track can be done more soft (51 km / 350m+): From Monells you will follow dirt roads, on the flat, passing by Ullastret and Peratallada, two of the most important medieval villages. In Ullastret you can also visit the stoniest Iberian ruins from the settlement of the Greeks in the area on 600 bC.
