Bike route description

You have two different options to cycle Greenways of Girona, option 1 and option 2.

Option 1 is more in the North and allows you to discover the natural resources of La Garrotxa, such as the volcanic area or the quiet and lovely areas related to the rivers Brugent and Ter. On your way to Girona you’ll pass through the towns of Sant Feliu de Pallerols or la Cellera de Ter, all of them with interesting heritage related to their rivers. You get to Girona after 58 Km.

Option 2 drives you from Girona to the coast, reaching the Mediterranean Sea. The ride is easy and fun and you’ll be passing through cropland and forests. On clear days you can enjoy an extraordinary views of the Pyrenees. The last part of the route crosses the Ridaura valley and runs gently down to the seaside town of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, where you can relax and enjoy the rest of the day at the beach. It’s a 42 Km ride.

Trip Itinerary

You have two different options to cycle Greenways of Girona, option A and option B.

Option 1: Olot – Girona (58 Km)
Transfer from Girona to Olot. This route takes you from the city of Olot to Girona following the river Brugent valley through the old train line called “Carrilet”. The lanscape is really lovely. Its natural situation offers an extensive and rich variety of landscapes from lofty mountains and rolling hills to beautiful aak and bech forest, not to mention the outstanding scenery of its volcanic area. You arrive at Girona. There is plenty to see and do in this magic historical city. Spend the rest day visiting the Cathedral, which has the broadest single nave of Gothic architecture in the world and getting lost through the narrow streets of the ancient Jewish quarter, one of the best preserved in the world. We also recommend a stroll along the Rambla or the medieval walls, which gives you a fantastic panoramic view of the city .
Option 2: Girona-Sant Feliu de Guíxols (42 Km)
This bike ride takes you straight to the Mediterranean Sea. Section that follows the greenway “El Carrilet”, passing through the towns of Quart, Cassà de la Selva, Santa Cristina d’Aro and Llagostera. Just out of Girona, the route follows the Onyar River, which gives us one of the most picturesque and most photographed images: the houses of Onyar River. Along the route we always have the Gavarres Massif as a backdrop, a mountainous forest area, consisting mainly of oaks, important for the cork production. We arrive in San Feliu de Guíxols, in front of the Mediterranean Sea. Transfer back from Sant Feliu to Girona
