N3-Description

Hiking route description

This hiking tour takes you to discover two river valleys, Ter and Núria, two of the most wonderful spots in the Oriental Catalan Pyrenees.

This is an easy hiking tour, with average laps of about 15 Km, perfect for walking at your own pace and enjoying the magnificent landscape.

Both  valleys are surrounded by peaks of almost 3.000m from which a multitude of water sources and torrents flow.

From Setcases, you are able to see the bay of Roses and the Cap de Creus peninsula, at the Costa Brava.

In Núria, you’ll discover an unparalleled environment where the waters of the river can only run its course thanks to the deep narrow gorges that have been cut through this hard rock. In Núria there’s also a Sanctuary, which is a popular place of pilgrimage.

This is a beautiful corner of the Pyrenees, where you will admire both natural and cultural heritage.

The small villages on your way are worth visiting, with medieval architecture buildings such as monasteries and bridges.

N3-Must-do

Must do & must see

Taste the most tipycal mountain dishes: dry cured sausages or the popular bread with tomatoe on top.

Admire the medieval architecture sights.

Trip Itinerary

Arrival day
The charming mountain village Camprodon lies at the confluence of the rivers Ter and Ritort and has a lovely centre with a 12th century footbridge.

Take your time to explore the alleys and squares and buying supplies such as delicious sausages and cured cheese from the local shops.
Stage 1: Camprodon – Molló (17 Km 825m+)
Start your trip with a great walk into the high Garrotxa area, initially taking you up through lush pastureland. A descent through woodland and valleys passing abandoned and sometimes renovated farmhouses brings you to the village of Molló with a beautiful Romanesque church from the 12 th century.
Stage 2: Molló – Setcases (12 Km 743m+)
Today you have a spectacular walk over two mountain passes with impressive panoramic views: to the West, the dramatic Pyrenean peaks, and to the East, the warm, wooded hills of the Garrotxa.

You start with a long, moderate climb the Fembra Morte Pass (1.728m) and remain high up as you continue to Lliens pass (1.864m) (a good picnic spot).

You continue across the northern flank of the Puig de les Agudes before descending through great landscape to Setcases. Dinner and accommodation in Setcases.
Stage 3: Setcases Vallter 2.000 / Bastiments 2.881
Today a taxi will take you to the ski resort Vallter2000 (11 Km driving).

OPTION 1 (15 Km 910m+ / 1580m-): From there if you are a good mountanier you can climb the Bastiments peak (2.881m) with unrivalled mountain views. On clear days you can see the blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea from here.

OPTION 2 (7 Km / 770m-): If you don’t want to climb the peak you can walk downhill through the valley of the river Ter back to Setcases.

OPTION 3 (0 Km): The last option is to take a restday in Setcases visiting the village and the surrounding area.
Stage 4: Setcases (transfer to Abella) – Ribes de Freser (18 km 550m+)
Your day begins with a short transfer from Setcases to Abella, where a delightful adventure awaits. The journey ahead might be shorter in distance, but it’s no less rich in experiences. As you set off on this path, you’ll find yourself ascending high above the valley, surrounded by the beauty and serenity of the natural world. As you ascend toward the Collada Verda Pass at an elevation of 1,606 meters, the vistas open up, revealing the expanse of the landscape stretching before you. The pass serves as both a destination and a gateway to the next part of your journey. Standing here, you’re rewarded with a sense of accomplishment and a panoramic view that seems to stretch endlessly. As you approach Ribes de Freser, you’ll have the chance to reflect on the day’s journey. The town greets you with its own unique charm from Pyrenees villages
Stage 5: Ribes de Freser / Puigmal 2.913m
Early in the morning you take the rack train up to Sanctuary de Núria (1.960m).

OPTION 1 (16 Km 1200m+ / 1930m-): From there you can climb the Puigmal peak (2.913m), the highest peak in the area. You descent on the opposite side to the sanctuary and then downhill on a nice single trail a long the valley to Queralps and then rack train down to Ribes de Freser.

OPTION 2 (7 Km 260m+ / 1010m-): If you don’t want to climb the peak you can also admire the breathtaking views from the sanctuary and then come back to Queralps down hill on the nice single trail a long the valley and then rack train to Ribes de Freser.

Excellent and highly recommended bike rental place in the heart of Girona. Close to the centre so probably close to anywhere you'd stay if you were staying centrally.Bike was lovely (BMC TeamMachine SLR01). Full di2, disc brakes, 12 speed, carbon rims, etc. Lovely and fast on the flat and rolling. Great immediate braking on the long or technical descents. Not bad at climbing either and very well priced compared to other bike rentals I've done.Staff were very friendly and helpful and communication when required was quick and effective. I'd arranged to pick up the bike on the day after arriving but managed to pick it up last thing the day before after contacting them. Pick up was quick and simple. Bike fit was easy on a rig in the shop. Di2 charging cable provided and I was ready within 20 minutes. Returning was equally quick and easy. Would definitely use again if I'm in the area. Highly recommended.

Simply excellent. Good quality bikes which required no maintenance. The GPX routes were accurate, challenging enough and fun. Our hotels were amazing with friendly staff and all luggage transports were timely. Great company to deal with :-).

We loved renting our bikes and taking a self guided tour through cycleTours Catalonia. The team was very kind and knowledgeable about the area. They took the time to walk us through all the routes. They were also super responsive when we called them for help. Additionally, the gravel bikes we rented were great, we were apprehensive to rent because we love our own bikes but we ended up being very happy with them. Would highly recommend!

I have hired a road bike from CycleTours Catalonia twice now and each time they have delivered. Efficient friendly service, great value for money and recommendations for local routes if you need them. This time I went for a BMC Team Machine SLR Two, which was super light and speedy and in great condition. The online booking engine is simple to use. See you next time!

I had a last minute change of plans so dropped by the shop the night before bike collection day. The staff were super friendly and very helpful, providing some route plans and asking if I wanted to take the bike early. Overall I had a great experience riding around Girono fantastic roads and beautiful scenery, I did get a couple flats which were due to an issue with the wheel rim but the bike overall was well maintained.Would definitely use this shop again next time I’m in town.

The service and bike hire were both amazing and flawless. I picked up the bike and was greeted by a friendly mechanic who made the adjustments to the bike fit I wanted and I was on my way to riding. Returning the bike was also pleasurable and easy. I would easily recommend Cycletours Catalonia to anyone in need of a rental or bike tour.

Fantastic bike rental company!I have hired bikes from lots of different companies in lots of different locations and have never received this level of service. Everyone I talked to was friendly and extremely helpful. They also were able to help me out even though I completely messed up my booking. The bike I rented was very well specced, in amazing condition and had no issues at all. And the price was great and included a cycle bag with items to repair any problems I may have had.I will 100% use them the next time I'm in Girona and would highly recommend them to anyone.

My husband and I did a 5 day self directed bike tour of Costa Brava. It was incredible. The gravel bikes were in great condition. I rented the ebike. It worked very well for me and Paul loved his BMC gravel. The hotel accommodations were first class and the breakfasts included were varied and delicious. We absolutely love the coffee wine and food in Costa Brava. Our tour took us on greenways, less travelled roads, coastal visas, farmers fields and walled villages. We absolutely loved everything. Manel and staff were exceptional and very responsive to our needs. Thank you for a lifetime experience we will alway remember !

They can’t do more to help! Great bike selection, and advice, including booking a taxi to our start point in Vic. Our late return, gone 6 when they close, was not a problem, even our filthy bikes were immediately washed and all for a great price.

We did the 7 day self-guided tour of Emporda on road bikes and it suited us perfectly. The bikes were new and in great shape. The route was very well chosen, little traffic, great variety and some fine passes. The hotels were of a very high standard, and the staff remarkably friendly. What more can I say!
