Bike route description

This walking tour takes to discover two river valleys, Ter and Núria, two of the most wonderful spots in the Oriental Catalan Pyrenees.

This is an easy hiking tour, with average laps of about 15 Km, perfect for walking at your own pace and enjoy the magnificent landscape.

Both valleys are surrounded by peaks of almost 3.000 meters from which flow a multitude of water sources and torrents.

From Setcases, you are able to see the Roses bay and the Cap de Creus peninsula, in the Costa Brava.

In Núria, you’ll discover an unparalleled environment where the waters of the river can only run its course thanks to the deep narrow gorges that have been cut through this hard rock. In Núria there’s also a Sanctuary, a popular place of pilgrimage.

This is beautiful corner of the Pyrenees, where you will admire both natural and cultural heritage.

The small villages on your way are worth visiting, with medieval architecture buildings such as monasteries and bridges.

Trip Itinerary

Arrival day

The charming mountain village Camprodon lies at the confluence of the rivers Ter and Ritort and has a lovely centre with a 12th century footbridge.

Take your time to explore the alleys and squares and buying supplies such as delicious sausages and cured cheese from the local shops.

Stage 1: Camprodon – Molló (17 Km 825m+)

Start your trip with a great walk into the high Garrotxa, initially taking you up through lush pastureland. A descent through woodland and valleys passing abandoned and sometimes renovated farmhouses brings you to the village Molló with a nice Romanesque church from the 12 th century.

Stage 2: Molló – Setcases (12 Km 743m+)

Today you have a spectacular walk over two mountain passes with impressive panoramic views: to the West, the dramatic Pyrenean peaks, and to the East, the warm, wooded hills of the Garrotxa.

You start with a long, moderate climb the Fembra Morte Pass (1.728m) and remain high up as you continue to Lliens pass (1.864m) (a good picnic spot).

You continue across the northern flank of the Puig de les Agudes before descending through great landscape to Setcases. Dinner and accommodation in Setcases.

Stage 3: Setcases Vallter 2.000 / Bastiments 2.881

Today you will take a taxi to the ski resort Vallter2000 (11 Km driving).

OPTION 1 (15 Km 910m+ / 1580m-): From there if you are a good mountanier you can climb the Bastiments peak (2.881m) with unrivalled mountain views. On clear days you can see the blue waters of the Mediterranean from here.

OPTION 2 (7 Km / 770m-): If you don’t want to climb the peak you will walk down hill through the valley of the river Ter to Setcases.

OPTION 3 (0 Km): The last option is take a rest in Setcases visiting the village and the surrounding area.

Stage 4: Setcases – Camprodon (12,5 Km 430m+)

A short but thoroughly enjoyable route leads high above the valley. Cross a mix of pastureland and forest and pass the astonishing village of La Roca, which seemingly clings to the rock on which it was built, then to reach Camprodon.

Stage 5: Camprodon - Ribes de Freser (23 Km 925m+)

Today you have a spectacular, gradual ascent through a wild valley up the Collada Verda Pass (1.606m) from where you descend along undulating paths and tracks Ribes de Freser.

Stage 6: Ribes de Freser / Puigmal 2.913m

Early in the morning you take the rack train up to Sanctuary de Núria (1.960m).

OPTION 1 (16 Km 1200m+ / 1930m-): From there you will climb Puigmal peak (2.913m) the hights peak on the area. You descent on the opposite way to the sanctuary and then downhill on a nice single trail a long the valley to Queralps and then rack train down to Ribes de Freser.

OPTION 2 (7 Km 260m+ / 1010m-): If you don’t want to climb the peak you can also admire the breathtaking views from the sanctuary and then come back to Queralps down hill on the nice single trail a long the valley and then rack train to Ribes de Freser.

OPTION 3 (0 Km): The last option is take a rest in Ribes de Freser visiting the village and the surrounding area.

Departure day

Departure after breakfast by train to Barcelona or by bus via Ripoll to Girona. Optional transfer to Camprodon.
